Frozen Berry Smoothie—Low-Cal Supercharger

images-1Satisfy your craving for frozen dessert with a delicious, super-nutritious—yet amazingly low calorie—treat, which takes minutes to whip up and keeps its fresh flavor indefinitely in the freezer. Smoothie can also be stored un-frozen on the coldest shelf of the fridge, where it will keep its freshness and flavor for 5-7 days.

Ingredients (quantities can be adjusted as needed—the list below merely indicates preferred proportions relative to each (organic) ingredient):

1 lb. blueberries

½ lb. strawberries

2 bananas

Sprinkling of cinnamon

¼ teaspoon or less pure, liquid vanilla extract (optional)

½ teaspoon unsweetened cocoa powder (optional)

¼ cup unsweetened almond milk (optional)

Preparation:

  • Whip all ingredients in blender until smooth and frothy
  • To freeze: divide into single portions and store in small freezer-proof (Pyrex-style) glass containers.
  • If containers have tight-fitting lids, first cover container with plastic sheet (such as Saran Wrap), to prevent evaporation or freezer burn, then fit lid over it.
  • For refrigerated (not frozen) smoothies, pour single portions into freezer-proof drinking glasses and cover with plastic sheet to protect them from food or other fridge odors. Consume in 5-7 days.
